This means that if you wanted to go to to change your password, you would get a 'page not found' error. Your Apache server would not have this port available, so if my guess is right, and Apache is serving your site, it is doing so on a non-standard port, something like 8080 or similar. If this is so, unless you got rid of IIS altogether, you more than likely still have it running and listening on port 80. This leads me to think you are not using your built in IIS to serve your content, you are using the Apache server that came as part of xampp.

You say you are on Windows 2003 server, and you also say you used the xampp package. In this window, you get the chance to configure the Startup type as 'manual', 'automatic' or 'disabled'. Hit that, and it takes you to a list of users on the database. Go to and look for a list of options, then 'privileges'.

My solution to this was to have a very secure password and using my anti-virus software to ban the offending ip address.

So, make sure you sort this issue before going live. The first one it tried was blank, then it went through the usual stuff like 'letmein' 'password' etc. It was sitting there for hours trying to gain access by using username 'root' and tried hundreds of possible passwords. A word of advice, I recently deployed a new server, and literally within minutes some automated application was trying to log into my database. Underneath that summary there is a link to which is a script that takes you to a screen allowing you to set or reset your root password.
